Overview
Gichner Shelter Systems' Newest Expandable ISO Shelter is a 20-foor ISO-style shelter that provides for rapid deployment and expansion. Our new and improved approach for this shelter design allows for faster deployment, with fewer moving parts. This Expandable Shelter provides the added floor space needed for command, Control and Communications systems needs. When expanded, the One-Side Expandable ISO Shelter (1:2) provides almost 25 square meters of operational floor space. When closed, the shelter meets the dimensional requirements of ISO 668 and ANSI MH5.4 allowing for transport using all common intermodal transport methods.
The expandable section nests inside the main 20-foot ISO section during transport. The floor panel of the expandable section is hinged longitudinally, allowing the floor section to fold in half when the shelter is closed for transport.
This feature allows for temporary or permanent mounting of heavy equipment to the floor of the main ISO section. The flush floor design allows easy relocation of equipment into the expandable section for operation. The unique folding floor design also allows for permanent mounting of equipment on the upper half of the walls of the expandable section, reducing the need to move that equipment after deployment. As an example, electronic equipment may be permanently mounted to the upper half of the expandable section's three walls, allowing for permanent interconnection of this equipment. Lights, power distribution, and signal distribution can be permanently installed in both the main section and expandable section.
Due to the modular design approach, custom configurations including different length expandable sections can be manufactured to suit specific system needs. Interior partitions can be installed to create a separate externally accessible equipment room, if desired. The unique design of the shelter permits it to be easily modified to permit over pressurization for NBC protection for the enclosed system and personnel.
